Today is the last day I'll be 17 years old. 😁
Here's a summary of 17 lessons I've learned in my 17 years of life. I've definitely learned more than 17 lol, but these stand out for me;
1. Gratitude is the best Attitude: I used to forget to count my blessings and be grateful for all I have, instead focusing on all the things I didn't have. The moment I learned this lesson, I started becoming happier and expected more abundance to be grateful for. Focus on all the things you're grateful for in your life right now, you'll attract more of it.
2. Dreams are valid and very achievable: Ah! This one. I'm a living breathing example of this. I once gave up on my dreams, I lost hope and was already resigning to my 'fate' but thank God I found a way to live my dreams! No dream is too big, you can achieve them if you keep believing and working towards it.
3. Passion will take you far: This is another super important one. It's not a coincidence that it's in the bible - whatever your hands findeth to do, do it with all thy might -. What is your passion? I used to think I didn't have one honestly, I was focusing on the popular talents and wondering which one I was passionate about but came up with zilch! Passion can be developed! Find something worthwhile and pour your heart into it, that's exactly what I did!
4. Choose courage over comfort: This is actually a quote by Brene Brown. It really spoke to me being that I was so inlove with being comfortable that I didn't want to take any risks. I dreaded risks even, if it's not clear or looks like I'd get hurt in any way, count me out! But I've learned that courage is what I need if I want to live the life of my dreams so I embraced it.
5. Comfort zone kills Dreams: This is similar to number 4. But I'd tell you this; my comfort zone almost killed my dreams. I was not ashamed to use it to make excuses. I had to get comfortable being uncomfortable.
6. Consistency is Key: I tell my team this one alot! If you want to get better at what you do, you've got to be consistent. When I first started my business, I had no business skills whatsoever then I learned about consistency, it changed everything!
7. You've got to be HUNGRY: This is one of my favourite quotes by my mentor Les Brown(It's also the book title to one of his recent books, I recommend you read it). How hungry are you for the things that matter most to you? For me, it's freedom! I hunger for it. That hunger keeps me going. Because just like eating when you starve, I've got to fill my dreams. The more hungry, the better.
8. Don't listen to people in the cheap seat: In a world where everyone has their opinions, I've learned to only follow the opinions of people I admire. When you buy someone's opinion you just bought their lifestyle. So ask yourself; who am I following/listening to? If you don't want their life, you shouldn't be following/listening to them.
9. You can totally reinvent yourself, you can be whoever you want to be: Oh yes you can! If you knew me say 2 years ago, you'd note that I'm a totally different person because my growth game is strong. Remind me to reintroduce myself again next year.😁 No matter who you are now, you can change, you can become better.
10. Personal Development is as important as a balanced diet: Once I learned that - for things to change, I have to change. For things to get better, I have to get better. - I became more intentional about developing me to become the person that deserves the lifestyle I dream of.
11. Success leaves clues: Have you noticed that the most successful people have similar stories and are saying almost same thing? "Have a vision, dream big, focus, work harder and smarter, start small and grow big etc". This is success leaving us clues. Here's my favorite mantra; if you want to be successful, follow successful people and model their behaviour, you'll get the same results they got. Before you roll your eyes, do it first.
12. Everything you have now, you attracted with your thoughts: I don't think I need to say much here except, change your thoughts and change your life!
13. If you can see it in your mind, you can hold it in your hands: No matter how big or ridiculous you think your dream is, so long as you keep holding that thought and strongly believing without a doubt, the Universe will align you with everything you need to achieve it. It's happening for me.
14. YOU are the difference between success and failure: No matter what you're doing now, the only reason you'll succeed or fail is because of YOU. When I understood this, I decided that I am successful!
15. Failure is an important recipe to success: Failure simply means another way it won't work. Once you keep going despite the failures, you'll eventually succeed because you keep failing forward. Quitting is what closes success doors.
16. Distractions don't look like distractions until it completely distracts you: With lots of social media trends, shows etc.. It's very easy to be caught up in all of it and spend your whole life watching others go after or live their dreams. I remind myself daily of my dreams and this helps me to stay focused because I know where I'm going.
17. Focus on what you can control: Being a perfectionist, this one was hard for me. I always want everything to be just right, I wanted to control every event in my life. This only burned me out. I've learned to focus on the things I have control over
I appreciate you for reading all of it, you're amazing!❤
