The following procedure is followed in road construction step by step;
SETTING OUT
The setting out for realignment and new construction shall involve staking of the intended road centerline with pegs (wooden if possible) at 50 meters intervals. The setting out involves the setting out of the entire centerline (horizontal and vertical alignment), chainage reference pegs, cross sections, and the setting out for all the activities.
EXCAVATION
This can be done by machine-intensive application like grader, excavators bulldozers and other machines that can increase the work rate productivity and accuracy.
SPREADING GEO TEXTILE MATERIALS
This involves the use of Geo textile mattresses and other Geo grid materials to stop rising water from the earth going up to the road surface, spreading of Sea sand and placement of hardcore.
BALANCE OF EARTHWORKS
This involves placement of Laterite, Stonebase and remember each level is done with proper compaction using machines like Sheepfoot rollers, steel rollers and other machines that can give better soil stabilization.
PRIMING
This involves spraying of Bituminous material to give the earth work a binding compatibility as introduction of Asphalt pavement is to be introduced.
LAYING OF ASPHALT
At this stage, the Laying of the Asphalt materials is readily made available using a paver and other compaction machine to help make the road durable for use.
Conclusion
When all the steps are followed and keen expertise is deployed during this process, there is a high chance of having a well-durable and functional road structure.
