    Research position (PhD Candidate) in the field of Bioinformatics (f/m/d) part-time 65%

    Organizational Unit:

    Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Institute for Process Engineering in Life Sciences, Microsystems in Bioprocess Engineering, CZS Junior research group BIOSCALE

    Your tasks:

    As part of your job, you will work in an interdisciplinary environment with bioprocess engineers, bioinformaticians, molecular biotechnologists, and systems biologists to understand and scale microbial bioprocesses.

    As part of your role, you will engage in the following tasks:

    • Implementing a bioinformatics pipeline to analyze transcriptome data from microbial bioprocesses, particularly with bacterial systems.

    • Application of approaches of special multivariate statistics and/or machine learning for the evaluation and interpretation of technical and biological data from bioprocesses.

    • Preparation of scientific publications, collaboration on patent specifications. In addition to the scientific work, there is the possibility of a PhD.

    Starting date and duration:

    As soon as possible for 3 years

    Your qualification:

    You have a university degree (Diplom (university / Master) in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Data Sciences, Biotechnology or similar. Expertise in the scripting language Python is a prerequisite. A basic understanding of systems biology, especially omics analysis is an advantage. In addition, one or more of the listed competencies of great advantage:

    Very good skills in using a scripting language (e.g. Python, R).

    Knowledge in data analysis (especially multivariate statistics and/or machine learning) • Experience in handling large multi-omics datasets

    • Knowledge of RNA work for transcriptome analysis

    Ability and willingness to solve problems independently

    Willingness to independently develop and pursue new research questions

    Ability to complete tasks accurately and reliably

    Very good language skills (English or/and German) for report writing, project documentation as well as conference presentations are desirable as well as an open communication behavior, quick comprehension and analytical thinking. We look for a team player.
